The \u201cBachelor\nDegree in Business with Specialization in Management for Yacht Captains<\/span>\u201d\nwas designed with the aim to relaunch the skills and credibility in the global\nmarket of people who work in the Italian maritime sector and to guarantee\nquality and protect the professionalism of captains and also of those who wish\nto enter this sector. A formation course that will allow certifying\nthe managerial ability of the captain in all phases of the yacht\u2019s life: from\ndesign and construction to refit.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Who can apply?<\/span><\/h1>\n\n

Captains <\/span><\/span>\u2013 professionals of the maritime sector with\nyears of experience in the field<\/span> who have not earned a\ndegree, but wish to do so without having to restudy everything they have\nalready learned and have recognized up to 50% of their previous work experience\nas part of the degree program;<\/span><\/p>\n\n

Recognition of Prior Learning<\/span><\/h3>\n\n

Students\nenrolled in the program have the possibility to request GY ACADEMY the\nrecognition of previous knowledge and skill the student has  gained\nthrough formal learning (training, workshops, seminars, etc. ) and non \u2013 formal\nlearning (workplace-related), allowing them to reduce the time of studying for\nthe bachelor degree to up to 50% ( from 3 years to 1year  and half)<\/span><\/p>\n\n

The course is\nheld partly online and partly through specific work experiences: the future of\nhigher education allows students to be more flexible and to work and study at\nthe same time wherever they are.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

It consists of the following study units:<\/span>  Managerial Organization and\nLeadership; New Market Solutions \u2013 YARE;  Maritime English;  Maritime\nEconomics;  Project and Operations Management; Saftey and Security\nManagement in the Maritime Sector part 1; Safety and Security Management in the\nMaritime Sector part 2; Marketing; Naval Architecture, Ship and Yachting\ntheory;<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n\n

*New\nMarket Solutions \u2013 YARE<\/span><\/u> consists in\nthe participation of the students to the Yare (Yachting Aftersales and Refit\nExperience) conference on the future of the market and nautical district\npromotional events, an international Superyacht meeting between Captains and\nthe refit industry in Viareggio (Italy) and its nautical district dedicated to\nSuperyacht Sector. YARE will host 100 superyacht captains (with an increasing\nnumber of people on board yachts over 60 mt LOA) from all over the world who\nwill meet an equal number of international aftersales and refit companies\nin B2B meetings.<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Requirements<\/span><\/h1>\n\n

1.Completed secondary education<\/span><\/span> (Level\n5 EQF) matriculation examination<\/span> or vocational qualification<\/span> (level\n5 MQF) possibly related to subjects like economy, business, finance as well as\nnavigation; no particular grades are requested for such subjects but applicants\nmight ask GY Academy relevant staff to assess their educational and\nprofessional profile in order to evaluate whether they have the right ability\nto succeed as well as recognition of prior learning, in line with GY Academy\nIQA and RPL Policy.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n\n

2.<\/span><\/span> Should demonstrate at\nleast 1 year of \u2018seagoing service<\/span>\u2019 [reference:  STCW Convention,\nInternational Convention on Standard of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping\nfor seafarers, 1978, point 26<\/b><\/span>] with official documentation (e.g. for\nMalta or the UK the \u201cSeamen\u2019s Discharge Book\u201d; for Italy the  \u201clibretto di navigazione e\nestrattomatricola<\/b><\/span>\u201d; etc); for those students who already have a\nprevious degree and are looking for a career change and aspire to become an\nentrepreneur. GY Academy relevant staff will assess the documentation\ncompliance in order to evaluate whether they have the minimum navigation\nexperience needed to complete the Bachelor programme.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

3.Level of English<\/span><\/span> requested\nis B2 for the English Language Edition of the course; the level\nof Italian<\/span> requested is B2 for the Italian Language Edition\nof the course; the level of English or Italian can be assessed by an\nindependent commission composed by language experts or, alternatively, can be\nproved with independent English\/Italian evaluations (e.g.  IELTS,\nTOEFL CELI, CILS etc.).<\/span><\/p>\n\n

1.   \n<\/span><\/span>Students will be\nequipped with all the necessary tools for success in approaching complex safety\nand security maritime challenges, identifying, analysing and evaluating\nsituations, ideas and information in order to figure out any possible problem.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

2.   \n<\/span><\/span>\u2022 Students will be\nable to share leadership and responsibility, work cooperatively, and get along\nwith co-workers having acquired proper Yachting Management tools and mindsets;<\/span><\/p>\n\n

3.   \n<\/span><\/span>Manage a business\nproject, responsibly and autonomously, in their own organization as\nentrepreneurs or in a different one as intrapreneurs.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

Teaching and Assesment<\/span><\/h1>\n\n

Teaching methods<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n\n

GY academy will utilise a flipped methodology whereby\nlearners are directed to self-study and follow online instruction material on\nthe platform. This will ensure that all material is covered adequately.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

Lectures could mix theory and action learning methodologies\nsuch as term project assignment, i.e. case studies, papers, analytical works\nand so on.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

Peer learning\u201d will be strongly encouraged and proper\nvirtual environment will be available to this end, provided by the online\nlearning platform. Moreover, Learners will be able to be supported, tutored or\nsupervised by teachers (or supervisors or tutors), according to what the single\nteacher will consider as most profitable for her\/his specific module or\ndiscipline.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

Assessment<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n\n

Each module could employ one or more of the followings:<\/span><\/p>\n\n

1.   \n<\/span>Portfolio:<\/span><\/span>A portfolio is a collection of student works that exhibits\nher\/his efforts, progress and achievements assessed on individual basis.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

2.    <\/span>Projects assignments: <\/span><\/span>a project, a work (e.g. a numerical analysis on a\nspreadsheet) or a paper could be assigned to a student on an individual or team\nbasis and evaluated individually.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

3.    <\/span>Examinations:<\/span><\/span> classical evaluation form to assess individual\noutcomes. Each teacher could define proper details according to the particular\ndiscipline and teaching method.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

Portfolios as well as Projects, Work or Paper assignments\nwill be designed with a formative assessment perspective in order to support\nstudents to achieve relevant learning outcomes;<\/span><\/p>\n\n
