Course description

The course has been designed to provide the knowledge and skills required by Decree No. 75 of 9 May 2025 for the On-board Electrical Engineer. Its aim is to train technicians who are experts in the design, installation, maintenance and inspection of on-board systems connected to the propulsion and power generation systems. Electrical and electrotechnical technicians may work in production or in maintenance, both onshore and on board; they oversee the planning of the various stages of system installation projects and organise human resources and materials, taking the most appropriate measures to ensure the optimal operation of electrical and electronic machinery and systems and to enhance their efficiency. They monitor compliance with national and international industry standards, as well as safety and quality requirements. They identify innovative and sustainable technologies and solutions to be applied during installation and maintenance. The Senior Technician works on boat and shipbuilding sites, or in specialist subcontracting firms, and collaborates on resolving requests and on the research and development of new solutions and equipment; they are able to select materials and components, are familiar with electrical and electromechanical diagrams and designs, apply regulations, and are knowledgeable about new technologies designed to enhance life on board and safety at sea.

At the end of the course, trainees may choose to continue their training as trainee electrical officers on board or to work ashore with companies in the sector.

Qualification awarded on completion

Senior technician specialising in the optimisation, production and maintenance of transport vehicles and related infrastructure, with a focus on shipbuilding processes. EQF Level V.
